NTD Asia 2017

The Asian Neglected Tropical Disease Conference 2017 (NTDASIA2017) will be held in Khon Kaen over 8-9 March 2017 at Pullman Raja Orchid Hotel, Thailand. The theme of this year’s meeting is NTDs Without Borders: From Bench to Community. It will cover multidisciplinary basic and translational research on important NTDs in Asia including, but not limited to, soil-transmitted diseases, foodborne trematodiases, schistosomiasis, taeniasis, dengue, rabies, leptospirosis, leishmaniasis, melioidosis, etc.

The 5th Global Health Institute (GHI)

The 5th GHI will be held in Chiang Mai, Thailand from the 5th to the 24th of February 2017. It will offer intensive studies combined with a 2-day research conferences in support of the goal of One Health Leadership in emerging diseases at the convergence of animal, human and environmental health. The GHI program offers 6 course options for participants in order to fulfill and complement the One Health Leadership experiences.

EU International conference about Antimicrobial Resistance

In the framework of the world Antibiotic Awareness Week 2016 (see the WHO website), An International Conference on Tackling the Global Challenge of Antimicrobial Resistance is organized by the DG SANTE European Union Delegation the 15th of November at the Swissohel, Bangkok, Thailand.

The conference is divided into 3 sessions: The global challenge of AMR, Tackling AMR in the European Union, Tackling AMR in Asia, Discussion and conclusion.

One Health PhD Thesis in Vietnam

Dr Marion Bordier has just started a One Health PhD thesis. She is going to be hosted by NIHE and NIVR in Hanoi, Vietnam from September 2016 to September 2019. The subject of her PhD is the Surveillance of health hazards at human-animal interface: tools and methods of epidemiological and socio-economic optimization for sustainable systems.

New One health Publication on MERS-CoV risk assessment

A publication about exposure pathways of the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV) at the Animal-Human interface designed from an expert opinion elicitation has been published in the journal Frontiers in Veterinary Science. The expert-opinion elicitation was used in order to obtain ideas on relative importance of MERS-CoV risk factors and estimates of transmission risks from various types of contact between humans and dromedaries.

Free MOOC on One Health by the University of Basel

A One Health free MOOC untitled “One Health: Connecting Humans, Animals and the Environment”, organized by Prof. J. Zinsstag, will start the 7th of November. The courses will last 6 weeks, with 5 hours of courses per week. In this free online course, the educators will attempt to answer some key questions, including:

What are the many advantages of a closer cooperation between human and animal health?

What transdisciplinary processes can be set up to solve a particular One Health problem efficiently?

International Conference on Veterinary Science 2016

The International Conférence on Veterinary Science 2016 will be held at the IMPACT Forum, Muang Thong Thani, Nonthaburi, Thailand, the 23rd to the 25th November 2016. The theme for this ICVS2016 is "Interdisciplinary Cooperation to Strengthen One Health". During the 3 days conferences, the program will provide the application of One Health in veterinary practices by interdisciplinary cooperation. A ComAcross presentation talk will be done by one of the project coordinator.

The International OneHealth EcoHealth Congress

The first International OneHealth and EcoHealth Congress will be held in Melbourne, Australia, from the 3rd to the 7th December 2016. The Congress will be a ‘meeting of the minds’ for researchers, policy makers and practitioners who are working towards more integrated approaches and effective responses to complex global health challenges. More than 1,000 experts will gather to deliver 9 plenary presentations, 200 oral presentations and 780 poster presentations. The science, ideas and thinking draw on diverse expertise from more than 60 countries.

The 2016's One Health Day

On November the 3rd 2016, individuals and groups from around the world, from academic to corporate and non-profit, students to established professionals, will have the opportunity to implement One Health projects and special events under the auspices of "One Health Day". Projects will highlight the benefits of a One Health transdisciplinary approach towards solving today's critical global-planetary health challenges.

European OneHealth EcoHealth workshop

The European OnHealth EcoHealth workshop will be held in Brussel, Belgium the 6th and 7th of October 2016. Some ComAcross representatives will participate to the conferences and notably present ComAcross experience during a plenary session, named Experiences on OneHealth practice and integration challenges, the first day from 16.30 to 18.30.

Communication video about ‘The Tam Dao Days’ now available online (with English subtitles)

Each year since 2007, the "Tam Đảo School in Social Sciences” (JTD) has been offering training in analytical methodologies of the social sciences  – geography, economics, statistics, socio-anthropology, history, etc. – to nearly 100 participants from Southeast Asia (students, university lecturers, researchers, civil servants, development practitioners).

 

The training takes place both at the Việt Nam Academy of Social Sciences (VASS in Hà Nội) and in residence at the Tam Đảo hill station close to the capital, or in another university in Central or South Việt Nam.

4th One Health Course- Paris, April 2016

Emerging infectious diseases are due to microorganisms residing in animal reservoirs and having epidemic or epizootic potential when transmitted to humans or livestock. Transmission occurs either directly or through arthropod vectors. Emergence of new pathogens is linked to ecological and environmental conditions depending on the impact of human activities on ecosystems (intensive agriculture, urbanization, deforestation, global trade, travels, climate change).
